AJ Eklipta was designed in 1956 for the City Hall in Rødovre, Denmark. It was used indoor for staircases and outdoor as a wall fixture. For this project two different diameter sizes were produced: 350mm (13.7") and 450mm (17.7"). Later on an even smaller variant with a 200mm diameter was designed for St. Catherine’s College in England. When Arne Jacobsen himself used the fixture for staircases, he always preferred the largest version. As a true functionalistic master, Arne Jacobsen created AJ Eklipta in a time period when Danish design had an exceptional quality to it, and today this fixture is still used in all kinds of architectural environments worldwide.
